Reorder before the shelf tells you to.

Northwind forecasts demand for every SKU at every location, checks it against each supplier's real lead time, and drafts the purchase order for a buyer to approve. Your reorder spreadsheet can retire.

How it works

One morning in the reorder queue.

Northwind is not a dashboard you check. It is a short list of decisions waiting for a buyer, with the arithmetic already done: forecast, safety stock, lead time, case pack, supplier minimum.

A Halvard Supply buyer in an orange vest checks the reorder queue on a tablet, standing in a long aisle of racked cartons.

“We used to rebuild the reorder sheet every Monday. Now Omar approves about 30 POs from the aisle before his first coffee and spends the rest of the week on suppliers.”

    Forecasts refresh overnight

Yesterday's sales, receipts and transfers land from your ERP. Every SKU-location pair gets a new 26-week forecast with a confidence band.

  2. 06:04

    Risk gets ranked, not dumped

Items are sorted by days of cover against real supplier lead time. Seven SKUs need a call this week; the other 4,193 do not show up.

  3. 09:12

    A buyer approves the draft

Quantities are already rounded to case packs and supplier minimums. Edit a line, or approve all four POs in one pass.

  4. 09:13

    The PO leaves the building

Approved orders sync back to your ERP and go to the supplier by email or EDI 850. Receipts close the loop and tune the next forecast.

The parts of planning a spreadsheet gets wrong.

Each one is a reason a buyer overrides the sheet by hand. Northwind handles them in the model instead.

Forecasting

Forecasts that read your promo calendar

Northwind models every SKU at every location separately, then layers planned promotions, price changes and holiday weeks on top. A buy-one-get-one in week 42 shows up as demand in week 42, not as a surprise stockout in week 43.

Lead times measured, not quoted

We time every receipt against its PO, so reorder points use the 9 days a supplier actually takes.

Approval rules in plain terms

if total < $2,000 and repeat item
→ auto-approve
if total > $25,000
→ ops director, then finance

Transfer before you buy

When one warehouse is short and another is sitting on 80 days of cover, Northwind suggests a transfer first. Customers move about 11% of reorder volume this way.

Reads from what you already run

Sales, receipts and on-hand come in nightly or in real time. Approved POs go back out to your ERP or straight to the supplier.

Questions buyers ask on the first call

Something else? Our planning team answers at ops@northwind.example

Twelve months by SKU and location lets us pick up seasonality. Thirteen weeks is the minimum to start. New items without history borrow a curve from similar SKUs you nominate, then switch to their own data after six weeks of sales.

Send one CSV. See next month's stockouts.

Export 13 weeks of sales and on-hand. Within two business days we send back a forecast and the reorder list Northwind would have drafted.

No card, no sales sequence. One reply from a planner.
